Releases Agenda for Getting to 2035, Deadline for NYC’s 100% All-Electric School Bus Fleet

February 3, 2022 Last year the NYC Clean School Bus Coalition stayed busy on the advocacy front, accomplishing their biggest goal when Intro-455A passed in the fall. Now, with a citywide mandate for all school buses to be electric by 2035, the coalition is shifting it’s work to focus on the next five years.

 

Introducing Our Interactive School Bus Depot Map, a New Tool for Electric School Bus Advocacy

December 17th, 2022 NYLCV has been working on an interactive map that shows the location of school bus depots across NYC and gives a visual representation of the disproportionate number of school bus depots located in environmental justice areas, areas with high asthma rates, and areas with poor air quality.

 

Electric School Bus Virtual Roundtable

November 30, 2021 Recently NYLCV and the NYC Clean School Bus Coalition held a virtual roundtable discussion in conjunction with NYCSBUS to speak about the importance of school bus electrification in New York City, especially within environmental justice neighborhoods and disadvantaged communities.

 

NYC Council Boldly Moves on Electric Buses, Climate Adaptation Planning

October 7, 2021 It was a busy day for the city council as Intro 455-A, a local law to mandate electric school buses, and Intro 1620-A, a local law to create a citywide climate adaptation plan, were brought to a vote and passed!

New York’s vehicle-to-grid e-school bus pilot program is a success

December 14, 2020 New York’s V2G school buses. The project began in 2018 among partners Lion, V2G technology company Nuvve, White Plains School District, and British multinational public transport company National Express. It’s the first successful deployment in the state of New York of a V2G pilot, in which electricity flows from electric school buses back to the grid when parked.

 

NYC Clean School Bus Coalition Launches to Demonstrate Important of Transitioning to Electric School Buses

6 City Council Members and Chairs Send Letter to Department of Education

February 28, 2020 In February 2020, six City Council members and chairs of the relevant Council Committees (Health, Transportation, Environment, Finance, Contracts, and Education) sent a letter to the DOE asking them to engage in a discussion about Intro 455, a City Council bill that would electrify the city’s school bus fleet by 2040.  

 

Advocacy Groups Join Council Member Espinal to Call for Clean School Buses

September 5, 2019 On the first day of school, the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV), New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI), WE ACT, Transportation Alternatives, EarthJustice, Citywide Council for District 75, and other advocates called on the NYC Department of Education (DOE) to clean its school bus fleet. The groups were joined by Council Member Rafael Espinal.

 

NYLCVEF Released “New School Year, Same Dirty Buses” Study

September 24, 2018 On September 24, 2018 NYLCVEF released a study, “New School Year, Same Dirty Buses: The Case for Electrifying New York’s School Buses.” This paper focused on the impacts of diesel pollution from buses on the environment, including its contribution to climate change, and on public health, particularly the impact on children.

 

New York Received Electric School Bus Funding Through the Truck Voucher Incentive Program

In 2015, Volkswagen pleaded guilty to providing misleading information about the emission levels of their vehicles, which were 40 times over the standard set by the EPA. They agreed to a $14.7 billion settlement and New York received $128 million of the sum.
